Dear pope Benedict XVI,
First, I would like to thank you for being such an inspirational pope. My parents
have discussed with me how you lead our spiritual journeys, and might someday
lead us into victory in heaven. I would also like to discuss with you issues that
are a great concern to me.
The Issues that have concerned me include the number of abortions in the
United States, the number of divorces in our country, and the abuse of freedom
given from parents to teenagers.
The first issue that I had mentioned concerns me because I have gone to many
places that have held pro-life actions, such as the “March For Life” in
Washington D.C. The banners and posters that I have seen of aborted children
scares me, and I think that many teenagers do not understand the real definition
of abortion, which is the killing of a child in the womb.
There are approximately 4,400 abortions each and every day in the United
States! I think that we need to get people of all faiths to work together to make
a difference in pro-life activities. This would also involve a lot of prayer, and
leadership on a local and state level.
The second issue that greatly concerns me is the number of divorces in our
country. I have known over twenty couples that have been separated and
divorced. I think that many people abuse the sacrament of marriage, and don’t
think of it as a life long commitment.
When a child is involved in a divorce situation they suffer a lot of heart ache.
Often the parents are trying to cope with their own loss of their spouse and fail
to see the effects on the child [children].
I think that this is important to address in a more spiritual manner instead of a
more social manner, and to hold meetings and seminars that might help people
with troubled marriages.
Lastly, I would like to discuss the abuse of freedom given from parents to
teenagers. The amount of freedom that teenagers are granted frequently result
in activities such as immoral behavior and the use of drugs and alcohol.
The reason this issue should be addressed is because I think teenagers are
capable of changing their behavior, however vices could become addictions and
they might be too hard to break if people have become too addicted to these
unhealthy habits.
I think that we could hold youth groups that contain more information on how
harmful immoral behavior and the use of drugs and alcohol can be to teenagers.
We also need to address that teenagers are capable of breaking habits with
the grace of God, and that they can receive help from people that have
knowledge about these issues.
In conclusion, abortion should be addressed by getting people of all faiths to
work together to make a difference in pro-life activities. Including the
involvement of prayer, and leadership on a local and state level. Divorces
should also be addressed in a more spiritual manner instead of a more social
manner, and to hold meetings and seminars that might help people with troubled
marriages. Last, I think that we could hold youth groups that contain more
information on how harmful immoral behavior and the use of drugs and alcohol
can be to teenagers. We also need to address that teenagers are capable of
breaking habits with the grace of God, and that they can receive help from
people that have knowledge about these issues.
I thank you for all your time and effort that you devote to listening to people’s
cares and concerns.
Sincerely Yours In Christ,
Sharon Marie Nelson
